The Last Ten Years

At then end of 2009, I did a small reflective of the last year of my life.  While sitting here in Kuwait, a few days before my 28th birthday, I started thinking about the last ten years.

I turned 18 in the year 2000, so 2010 represents the end of my first decade as an adult.

It would take forever to list every major accomplishment of the last decade, but I thought I’d take a minute to reflect on some highlights.  It’s been a crazy ten years and if the next ten are like it … it’ll be amazing.

2000

Started off the year taking an amazing trip to Scotland with my church group.  I then graduated high school and moved to Tallahassee to start my freshman year at Florida State University.

2001

I lost my grandfather in the summer – this was a very hard time for me as we were very close.  I, like millions of Americans, completely changed my views of the world and America on September 11th.  If you had told me then that in 8 years I’d be working in Kuwait, I would have called you crazy.

2002

Another year in Tallahassee.  I’m sure amazing things happened, but I’m drawing a blank … haha.

2003

I took my first real professional theatre gig by spending the summer in Cooperstown, NY working for Glimmerglass Opera Company – the first of two amazing summers up there.  Also started my final year at Florida State – stage managed Crazy For You – which was the highlight of my four years.

2004

Graduated from Florida State (with Honors, haha).  Spent a second summer at Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown – amazing.  I moved back to Atlanta and started work at the Alliance Theatre Company.

2005

Quit the Alliance Theatre – moved to Los Angeles to start work at Thinkwell Design & Production.  Took an awesome trip across the country with my Father.

2006

I spent most of this year in Atlantic City, NJ.  I could write (and might) a whole book on my experiences out there.  After Atlantic City, I left Thinkwell and started working at Electrosonic.  That Christmas I took an amazing trip to Italy with three great friends.

2007

Celebrated New Years in Milan, Italy.  In July of this year, I moved to Washington DC to work on the Newseum for Electrosonic.  This was the start of 8 great months of my life.

2008

Still in DC.  After finishing the Newseum, I left Electrosonic to start my own company.  This was the start of 6 hard months with little work.  In the fall of this year, I started working on America I Am  — a touring museum exhibit for Seruto and Company.  This was the start of another great professional relationship.

2009

Opened America I Am in Philadelphia and continued working for Seruto and Company.  Finally, in November of this year, I left Seruto and Company to go back to Electrosonic to head to Kuwait …. Where I am now….

Cleary this decade was highlighted by professional achievements and travel (mostly for work).  Opening the Newseum in DC and America I Am in Philly are two of my proudest accomplishments.

Starting this near decade, I see another possible move and career shift … maybe more personal achievements and milestones … but plenty of professional success as well.

I can’t wait.
